Aileu

Aileu holds historical significance as a site of resistance during the struggle for independence from Indonesian occupation. During the 1999 East Timor independence referendum, Aileu was one of the regions where significant fighting took place. Aileu is easily accessible from Dili, with a road connecting the two regions.
