About Anatur-TL
Since Timor-Leste’s independence on May 20th, 2002, there has been a growing interest in establishing a central tourism association to showcase the country’s natural beauty and cultural richness to tourists worldwide. However, the process of forming a unified, representative association faced challenges due to the diverse interests introduced by the United Nations’ presence, the use of multiple languages, and the emerging local desire to preserve Timor-Leste’s unique identity and priorities.
On December 17th, 2009, ANATUR-TL was officially established to unite the majority of local businesses and advocate for local interests. This initiative also responded to the government’s February 16th, 2009, request, in the form of a letter from the Minister of Tourism to Mr. Julio Alfaro Duarte J. De Araujo, urging the creation of the Chamber of Commerce of Timor-Leste (CCI-TL).
Following this, the CCI-TL was inaugurated on April 17th, 2010, with ANATUR-TL proudly serving as one of its 17 honorary founding members. To this day, ANATUR-TL maintains strong ties with CCI-TL and is honored to delegate a national member to serve as Vice-President of Tourism within the CCI-TL structure.
ANATUR-TL is committed to representing everyone in the tourism industry. Recognizing the vital role of tourism in Timor-Leste’s economic development, the association works closely with the government to support the formation and implementation of sustainable tourism policies, ensuring long-term growth and prosperity for the nation.
